Last October 18-21, 2022, Bayi Inc. held the Bayinihan Local Humanitarian Leadership Local Workshop in Butuan and Siargao. Here, the team was able to surface different experiences of women working in the humanitarian sector.
The workshop modules used were designed through an arts-based approach that would surface both intimate, personal, and public or collective dimensions of being a woman humanitarian leader. The first day centered on embodied knowledge, care, and community. The participants highlighted how they often find themselves over-worked due to their roles in their families and communities. On the second day, the participants created a story map to identify and analyze the role of actors, the processes involved, and the distribution of power among these connections. They emphasized empowerment through accessing networks in the LGU and NGOs, but also how limited they can be, as resources are often disproportionate to the needs of all those affected.
With all of these connections and challenges, the participants ultimately highlighted the importance of mentoring, maintaining networks and communities of support, and uplifting fellow women leaders to establish a more empowering space in the humanitarian sector. For the national workshop, the team intends to validate these findings and deepen the discussions with its participants.
On November 23-25, 2022, Bayi Inc. held the Bayinihan Local Humanitarian Leadership National Workshop at Quezon City, Metro Manila.
The workshop had 22 local humanitarian leaders who are women or from gender minority groups. These individuals had leadership roles in the local government, nongovernment organization, civil society group, people organization, cooperative and other groups that contribute the community’s local humanitarian response. Air fare, in-city transportation, and accommodations expenses was covered by the organizing team.
