Last October 20-21, 2022, Bayi Inc. held the Bayinihan Local Humanitarian Leadership Local Workshop in Muniticipality of Del Carmen, Surigao del Norte. The local workshop is a one and a half-day onsite activity that convened local women, LGBTQIA+, and other gender minority leaders and groups on the humanitarian sector. It led to the identification and mapping of different local humanitarian initiatives and practices in their locality. It also encouraged and created a platform for peer-support and learning.
We consolidated all narratives and insights into learning resources we will be disseminating to different stakeholders to strengthen women and gender minority representation in key decision-making positions in the humanitarian sector. This included policy recommendations that can support such efforts.
The workshop had 7 local humanitarian leaders who are women or from gender minority groups. These individuals performed leadership roles in the local government, nongovernment organization, civil society group, people organization, cooperative and other groups that contribute the community’s local humanitarian response.
It included a pre-workshop activity that assigned the participants to submit a 5-minute video that depicted a day in their life, their work as a humanitarian leader, and the transformations they observed within their self and their community.
